MORE ABOUT VETRAZZO
Vetrazzo® is one of the greenest surface materials available. Invented in 1996, Vetrazzo® is composed of a proprietary formula that combines recycled glass with cement, additives and pigments.
The Glass:
All of the glass used in Vetrazzo is recycled, and it makes up about 85% of the total material. Most of the glass comes from curbside recycling programs. Other glass comes from windows, dinnerware, stemware, windshields, stained glass, laboratory glass, reclaimed glass from building demolition, traffic lights and other unusual sources. Every Vetrazzo surface has its own history.
LEED Contribution
Due to its high recycled content, using Vetrazzo can help your project qualify for LEED certification.
A Story in Every Surface
There’s something else you get when you choose Vetrazzo®—there’s a story in every surface™. A story about the life of the glass. A story about its transformation. And a story about you.
The Glass
All of the glass used in Vetrazzo is recycled, and it makes up about 85% of the final material by weight. The largest proportion of glass comes from curbside recycling programs. Other glass comes from post industrial usage, windows, dinnerware, stemware, automotive windshields, stained glass, laboratory glass, reclaimed glass from building demolition, and other unusual sources such as decommissioned traffic lights.
You and Vetrazzo – when the stories merge
Because of the unique nature of the glass used in the production process, every Vetrazzo surface has its own history. We track that history, and when you purchase Vetrazzo, we provide a Certificate of Transformation that tells you exactly where the glass in your Vetrazzo came from.
At that point, your story merges with ours, and a new story begins. You’re solving an environmental problem. And we think that says a lot about you.
Vetrazzo—a story in every surface.

The Glass Transformation Story
Beginning over 300 years ago flint was used to produce an elegant glass that is the predecessor to English crystal. These days flint struts its stuff in rhinestones and continues to take on many humble forms as well, doing the excellent work of keeping food and drinks fresh in jars and bottles. We take what can't be used and transform it into sparkling flint glass Vetrazzo.
Charisma Blue
A divine gift. That is charisma. To us, Vetrazzo seems charismatic in its beauty, and its elegant solution to transforming glass.
Our President chose this mix for his desktop. He has some charisma of his own, so we named it after him. It’s made of humble beverage bottles exquisitely re-purposed. From humble to charismatic. Charisma Blue.

Chivalry Blue
Chivalry. It makes you think of knights in armor saving damsels in distress.
Damsels seldom need saving anymore it seems, but Chivalry is not dead. At least it’s alive and well at Vetrazzo, where our CFO demonstrates it daily. He’s a do-the-right-thing kind of guy.
He chose this mix, so we named it for him. Because it’s made of recycled beverage bottles, it’s a do-the-right-thing kind of product. And like the knights of old, this mix is strong and elegant… we hope it inspires chivalry. Chivalry Blue.

Cubist Clear
One definition of a cube is “a special kind of prism.”
The little prisms in this mix are from tempered glass, used for your safety in windshields and shower doors.
Enjoy these cubes, these special kinds of prisms, as they enjoy a second life in this surface. Cubist Clear.
The Glass Transformation Story
Windows are great things... keeping the weather out while allowing the sun to naturally light our lives. Safety glass is used for many types of windows. “Tempering” creates internal stress that allows glass to shatter safely, thus the name, “safety” glass. We get our tempered glass from waste produced by one of California’s largest window manufacturers, Milgard; they put safety first. A product that first served people’s safe keeping now serves to promote the planet’s safe keeping.
Cool Titanium
The smooth, subtle charm of cool titanium is as classic as the glass it's made from. Flint glass, the clear glass used in most jars, originated in England in the early 19th century. It contained the toxin, lead oxide. In modern Flint glass, lead oxide has been replaced by titanium and zirconium oxides, rendering it safe to store food. Recycling helps keep the planet cool. Vetrazzo's Cool Titanium, pretty cool all around.
The Glass Transformation Story
Even the most efficient manufacturing process has some waste. The bottles and jars that we find in our kitchens are no exception. Vetrazzo offers glass container manufacturers an avenue for keeping the chipped, cracked, misshaped and otherwise rejected container glass out of the landfill. This mix may include preserve jars and clear bottle glass. Cool Titanium.
Floating Blue
A soft, blue sky punctuated by tall buildings. Sometimes those buildings appear to be made of nothing but glass. Aptly named, blue float glass is often used for such lofty spaces. This glass is manufactured by floating a stream of glass on a thin bed of tin
The Glass Transformation Story
Inevitably, manufacturing glass produces waste. Too often, that waste ends up in the landfill. We like to keep this peaceful color out of the waste stream. You see it here, floating freely in this Vetrazzo mix.
Glass House
We all know what they say about living in glass houses…
But sometimes it’s fun to throw stones. And some-times, in life, things break or are no longer needed. Like the bottles and jars that once contained delicious food in your kitchen.
What’s cool is that the recycled glass from these bottles and jars is transformed into this surface. Glass House.
The Glass Transformation Story
The glass you recycle is collected and sorted into three basic categories; clears, browns and greens. We use clears in this surface. So imagine this – the bottle or jar that held your favorite pickles, organic lemonade, or Mexican beer could be in this Vetrazzo. Recycling glass...clearly a wise decision.
Hollywood Sage
Glamorous and good. That describes this Vetrazzo mix, as well as the celebrity couple that was its inspiration – Ed Begley, Jr. and Rachelle Carson. Made of post-consumer recycled bottle glass in a tinted matrix, we think it has true star-power.
The Glass Transformation Story
“Georgia Green” bottles are used for a popular soft drink, for several different brands of wine, and for various types of sparking water. This unique pale green glass is unmistakable when you see it on the shelf, and it gives this distinctive mix its lovely soft green color: Hollywood Sage.
Margarita Flint
A bottle of good tequila, some fresh lime juice, and a dash of something sweet, poured into salt-rimmed glasses...margaritas are a summertime favorite. The name for Vetrazzo's Margarita Flint was inspired by the familiar hue of lime juice mixed with tequila, and sparkle of flint glass which is used to bottle many fine tequilas, and so many other delicious things.

Millefiori
A hillside of wildflowers on an unexpectedly warm Spring day. The breeze carries the soft sweet scent of a thousand flowers. And the colors are dazzling.
A thousand flowers. For centuries in Italy they have made glass of brilliant colors called Millefiori, “a thousand flowers”.
Using glass salvaged from a more local art glassmaker, we have captured the joy of a thousand flowers in this mix. Millefiori.
The Glass Transformation Story
The world’s largest art glass manufacturer patented a production process referred to as, continuous ribbon. It connotes colorful ribbon candy and the rainbow of colors they produce is equally astounding. The tasty crumbs of their rejects or over-runs give Millefiori its full bouquet.
Palladian Gray
Architecture implies permanence, or at least longevity. Palladio was an architect whose style has endured. Palladian windows are named after him, arched lovely windows.
But nothing is permanent, and buildings come down. When they do, we collect the window glass and give it new life. We named this mix to remind us of the first purpose of the glass. Palladian Gray
The Glass Transformation Story
When the grand old Esprit building in San Francisco was demolished to make room for something new, we collected the glass. When buildings are torn down, the glass from the windows and doors can be salvaged. We transform that glass into something beautiful: Palladian Gray.
Porter Flint
Named after the porters who worked along London's River Thames in the 18th century, Porter is a bold beer made with dark malt that has warmed many a spirit over hundreds of years. Think of the rich tones of a glass stein filled with this tasty brew: Vetrazzo Porter Flint.
